The San Juan Island Community Foundation

The San Juan Island Community Foundation has a simple mission: to ensure and enhance the quality of life on San Juan Island. We do so by channeling gifts of money from private and corporate donors into a permanent endowment, professionally invested and managed through the Seattle Foundation.

Each year, income from the endowment and funds designated by donors is used to provide grants supporting the arts, youth and education, the environment, and health and human services of our island community.

The Foundation offers donors, both large and small, the opportunity to create a lasting legacy of caring. All gifts are welcome, regardless of size.

"My husband and I have no heirs, but this community has been generous to us, so we made a bequest to the Community Foundation in our wills. The Foundation will distribute the money, respecting our intent even if one of the named beneficiaries no longer exists. Our bequest will help meet the needs of San Juan Island long after our passing."

Who We Are

The San Juan Island Community Foundation was established in 1994, and as a tax-exempt, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization builds for the future by helping to shape a vision of San Juan Island life. We do this through key activities.

Quality of life
The San Juan Island Community Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life on our island by encouraging philanthropy, growing an endowment for purposeful grants to community charitable organizations, and building partnerships that effectively connect donors with island nonprofit organizations.

Endowment Stewardship
The Foundation, guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, oversees a charitable endowment of over $1,000,000

Donor Services
The Foundation administers charitable funds, trusts and bequests. To date, over 300 family, estate and organization donors have utilized the Foundation as their philanthropic vehicle.
