Become a Donor

People donate to community foundations for a variety of reasons. The San Juan Island Community Foundation can offer our donors the following advantages:

SIMPLICITY: One contribution to the Foundation may address a number of different needs and can benefit a number of charitable organizations in our community.

TAX BENEFITS: The San Juan Island Community Foundation qualifies as a public charity under federal tax law. Gifts made during a donor's lifetime will result in substantial income tax advantages and bequests are deductible for federal estate tax purposes. To explore various options, we encourage you and your financial advisor to visit: PhilanthroCalc.

PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY: Our association with the Seattle Foundation, enables us to pool our financial assets and thereby achieve higher investment returns with lower investment management expenses. We invite you or your financial advisor to visit their technical assistance site: The Planned Giving Design Center.

What we can offer Donors

  • We act as your savings account for the future of San Juan Island through our general endowment fund, and so we can direct your charitable giving to maintain your family legacy into perpetuity

  • We act as your conduit to non-profit organizations seeking funding to insure your charitable giving can remain confidential if this is your desire.

  • We act as your provider of due diligence on non-profit organizations seeking funding to insure your charitable giving is necessary and meaningful

  • We act as your reporter as to the responsible use of your charitable funds on an ongoing basis.
