Grants
Grants are awarded through a competitive process that strives to address the broad needs of our community.
Of particular interest are projects that:
- Engage several organizations in cooperative efforts;
- Exhibits creativity. For example, your project demonstrates a compounded effect that a grant from us will provide;
- Leverage new resources –time, money or know-how – to accomplish broadly accepted priorities, and
- Undertake activities that are of strategic importance and hold promise to make a lasting, significant impact.
Grant applications are due by the June 15, with awards being made at the end of September. The Community Foundation understands that there are projects with exceptional circumstances that may prevent applicants from participating in the standard, annual grant cycle. Exceptions to this schedule can be made.
In 2008, the Foundation awarded over $700,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations, primarily on San Juan Island. Click here for the list of recipients and their funded project descriptions.
